CAMPER HIRE FAQS

We're happy to answer any questions you may have - just drop us an email.

Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions ...

Why should we book with Live the Wild?

Because we are a private company with a passion for Scotland and lots of local knowledge we're excited to share!  It's a personal touch when you book through us with lots of wee surprises and exemplary care from start to finish.

Are your Campers suitable for children and families?

Absolutely!  Our campers each specify the number of beds and belted seats available.  Please note that whilst our campers are able to carry childseats, we do not provide these – you can rent these from a separate company or feel free to bring your own.  We do this to ensure the safety of the child as we cannot be 100% sure that a car seat out on loan has not been damaged.

Where is collection/drop-off?

We provide you with two options for collection and drop-off.  Either Glasgow Harbour in Glasgow's West End which has excellent transport links from the City Centre via Partick train/subway/bus station or we offer Glasgow International Airport Meet & Greet services.

Is there somewhere to store my car?

Yes, there's plenty of free on-street parking available at Glasgow Harbour.  Customer's cars are left at their own risk, but the car park is well lit and safe.

What do we do if we have to answer the call of nature?!

We call it a 'Loo with a View' ... yes, it can be a little draughty at times, but don't worry we provide you with all the tools you'll require for a comfy experience.  Always remember to 'Leave No Trace'.  You can also park up at campsites, use service stations or use the call of nature as an excuse to visit a local pub!

Do we have to pay upfront?

To secure the rental of the campervan for a requested rental period, a deposit of 25% of the total rental cost must be paid at time of booking.  Any additional extras (such as tent hire) need to be paid in full at time of booking.  Four weeks (28 days) prior to the commencement of the rental period, the remaining balance must be paid.  Where bookings are made within four weeks of commencement of the rental period, the full rental price must be paid at the time of booking.  Once the initial booking is made through the Checkfront page, you will receive an invoice from Live the Wild to complete the booking.

How do we pay?

You can pay through our booking system or PayPal.  The final invoice will be sent to you 4 weeks in advance.

Do we need to fuel up?

We run a “full to full” policy – we provide a full tank of fuel and ask that you please return the van in the same state.  There is a petrol station directly opposite the collection point in Glasgow.  Failure to return the van without a full tank of fuel will result in a charge of the missing fuel at the current price of the petrol station plus a fee of £25.

Is there a mileage limit?

There is no limit on mileage, but the van must remain within the UK.

What is your cancellation policy?

We strongly advise that you take out your own insurance against unavoidable cancellation.

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • If you cancel your booking more than six weeks before departure date, a full refund is applicable.

  • If you cancel 6 to 4 weeks, your 25% deposit will be retained.

  • If you cancel your booking within 28 days of your departure date, the full amount will be non-refundable.

We reserve the right to cancel your booking should you not meet the following criteria:

1. Failure to pay in full 28 days before your departure.

2. If any information you have provided us with at booking is incorrect or invalid – e.g. documentation does not match the details you originally provided.

In the unfortunate event that we need to cancel your booking, you will either be able to rearrange your booking to another date or receive a full refund.

What is your Covid cancellation policy?

If either the hirer or Live the Wild is required to cancel the booking as a result of Covid (e.g. government imposed restrictions, a positive Covid test result) then we will allow you to reschedule your booking free of charge.  If you’re unable to reschedule you’re booking, we will provide you with a Live the Wild voucher for the full cost of your original booking.  This voucher will have no expiry date.

Who can drive the camper?

Hirers can have an unlimited amount of named drivers subject to them meeting all the hirer criteria and agreed by Live the Wild.  The hirer criteria is all outlines in our T&Cs.

How does insurance work?

We have self-drive hire insurance with Alan Boswell.  Our T&Cs specify all the criteria you need to meet to be able to hire our campers.

Is there breakdown cover?

Yes!  This is through Call Assist and includes

  • Roadside assistance

  • Home start

  • Recovery

What happens if we have an accident?

Any accident involving our campervans must be reported to us and the relevant police authority as soon as is reasonably possible.  Please check our T&Cs for full details.

Why do you require a security deposit?

Don't worry, the security deposit of £500 will be refunded to your original method of payment within 7-10 working days providing the vehicle is brought back in the same condition as it was let and the terms and conditions are met.  A £1500 excess applies to each and every accident/damage cause to the vehicle.  We have to do this to ensure the insurance is valid.

EXPERIENCES FAQS

We're happy to answer any questions you may have - just drop us an email.

Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions ...

Why should we book with Live the Wild?

Because we can show you Scotland in a truly unique way!  No generic coach tours here; we take you to wild and beautiful places so you can experience what the locals do (when we're not down the pub).

Are your Experiences suitable for children and families?

Absolutely!  The joy of bespoke Experiences is we can tailor each and every one to individual requirements.  Whether you have a tiny baby you wish to introduce to the Wilds or a budding mountaineer; we can accommodate and adapt experiences for you.  All we ask is that a parent/legal guardian be present with any person under 18.

Do we have to provide our own transport?

We can either meet you at the Experience location or you can really spoil yourself by booking a chauffeur from Stanelydrive (see our Transport page for more details).  If you prefer to use public transport, we can absolutely tailor Experiences to suit.

What do we do if we have to answer the call of nature?!

We call it a 'Loo with a View' ... yes, it can be a little draughty at times, but don't worry we provide you with all the tools you'll require.  Always remember to 'Leave No Trace'.

How do I check availability?

Please email us to check if a particular date is available and we will always do our best to accommodate you.

Do we have to pay upfront?

We ask for a 10% deposit to secure the booking, then the final balance is due one week before the Experience.

How do we pay?

We ask for bank transfers to be into our  business account please, we will supply all the details once everything is confirmed.

What if we need to cancel?

Sometimes the unexpected can turn up and for unforeseen circumstances you may need to cancel.  The deposit is non-refundable, but if you cancel more than a month in advance then no further payment will be due.  If you cancel 14 calendar days prior to the Experience then we ask for 25% payment and 7 days prior 50%.  Cancellation within 7 days is non-refundable.

What if you need to cancel?

Live the Wild is a small, personal business and as such there may be rare instances where we need to cancel an Experience.  We understand how disappointing this can be and so a full refund (including the deposit) will of course be provided as well as a replacement day where possible where the deposit is waived.

I've heard the weather in Scotland can be a bit wet, what do you do when it's raining?

We get asked this a lot!  Our much loved comedian Billy Connolly once said "there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing ... so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little."  We channel this philosophy wholeheartedly!

The majority of Experiences can still take place in the rain (sometimes it actually makes for the most stunning photography, and shows Scotland at her wild best) and the rest can easily be adapted.  We will discuss with you prior to the day if you'd like to have an alternative date in mind should the weather not be ideal, or if you'd prefer to stick with the same date and enjoy a slightly modified day.  We have several tricks up our raincoat to ensure you still have a magical day!

If we consider the weather conditions to be dangerous, as a last resort we will cancel the Experience and refund you the full amount.

What if I have medical conditions or require special assistance?

We want Scotland to be accessible for all and will always endeavour to design and tailor Experiences to the needs of the whole party.  We ask for a consent form to be completed prior to the day to make sure we are aware of any additional requirements you may have.  We will always be able to provide you with options, so please get in touch and let us help you.

Are all Experiences private?

Yes, every Experience is solely for your party - this can be an intimate romantic day out (where we are happy to make ourselves scarce) or an extended family trip.  Either way, you'll not be sharing your day with anyone else.

What do I need to bring?

Each Experience is different, so we'll always provide you with a specific list of what to bring - generally speaking it'll be warm and comfortable clothes, plenty of water to drink and a waterproof jacket.

Do you do photography tours?

Absolutely!  If you're a photography enthusiast, we can take you to some of the most beautiful places in Scotland to capture that perfect shot.

Are you with us for the whole day?

This is entirely up to you; for some of the more challenging Experiences a Guide will be with you throughout the day to ensure your safety and enjoyment.  For the more relaxing days out; if you'd like some space to be left to enjoy the views, this is entirely your choice and we are very happy to let you enjoy your surroundings in peace.

What does the cost include?

Depending on the Experience, the cost will include your Live the Wild Guide and snacks and refreshments throughout the day.  All Experiences are different so we will make clear what's included in the costs, and once agreed there are no hidden extras.

Can I bring my dog?

Absolutely!  Four-legged friends are always welcome to join us; it's their holiday too!

How fit do I need to be?

Again, this depends entirely on the Experience - if you want an adrenaline filled day out we can up the pace for you but if you'd rather a short stroll to the beach then we can do this too.  Everything is tailored to you.

There's no Experience near where I'm staying, do you do others?

Yes!  The standard packages available on our website are just a tiny example of what we can do - get in touch and we can work together to find the perfect Experience for you.

Do you do driving tours?

Our focus is on reaching the places it's just not possible to go to from a coach, but if a driving tour is more your thing please get in touch and we'll arrange a tour for you through our affiliate Stanelydrive.

What's the maximum group number?

This depends on the Experience as some lend themselves more to larger group numbers.  As a general guide, the maximum is 6, but get in touch if you have more in mind.

Do you offer large group discounts?

Yes we do, get in touch if you're interested in planning an Experience for a larger group of people (e.g. team-building etc.).

Do you do solo Experiences?

Yes, absolutely!  Just email us to get in touch.
